AFL & CRICKET CLUB LANDFILL

Development of new facilities (clubhouse, cricket nets, water tank, shed, services) on a historical landfill site.

The project is located on an uncapped and unlined landfill generating carbon dioxide and containing friable asbestos.

Solution: We completed a human health and environmental risk assessment of landfill gas and waste. To support construction and future site operations we identified and advised on design and construction of gas and asbestos protection, quantified asbestos and completed a waste classification for disposal and reuse. We refined and validated concept designs. We obtained contaminated soil disposal permits and secured a waste levy exemption to reduce disposal fees. Our ongoing involvement includes design and onsite construction support; inspections; engaging with subcontractors, suppliers and Council; validation sampling; and reporting to ensure human health and the environment is protected.

Outcome: Our investigation achieved a thorough understanding of the Site’s ground gas regime, identified risks, and confirmed design of gas protection and asbestos barriers. Our work supported approvals and permits necessary to achieve construction commencement. Our ongoing construction support ensures the project continues to progress without delay associated with environmental controls.
