AIRPORT TERMINAL CONSTRUCTION

Onsite construction environmental management and compliance.

The Project involved the construction of a three-level airport terminal and aerobridges requiring major civil earthworks and drainage; construction of pavements, structures, and external landscaping. As the soil and groundwater is contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) a primary focus was the handling of contamination consistent with the site-specific human health risk assessment and waste protocols.

Solution: We provided an experienced and knowledgeable consultant as the onsite Environmental Compliance Officer with expertise in contaminated land assessment and a background of environmental management and compliance. Our role supported the ongoing progress of construction by implementing the construction environmental management plan comprising daily performance and compliance monitoring; sampling and waste classification of excavations, stockpiles, and imports consistent with best practice guidelines for reuse and disposal; monthly and rain event groundwater and surface water monitoring; reporting compliance and monitoring data; and liaising with airport operators and the Federal regulator.

Outcome: Our experienced personal were able to develop meaningful relationships with client construction managers, airport operators and the federal regulator to manage expectations whilst ensuring positive and practical environmental outcomes through to completion.
